Middlebury Magazine – Editorial Illustration
Capturing the changing meaning of a college reunion through illustration.

For the Summer 2026 issue of Middlebury Magazine, I was commissioned by Pentagram to illustrate Alison Osius' essay about returning to her college reunion.

The story explores how time changes our perceptions of ourselves and others, combining humour, nostalgia and the unexpected discoveries that come with reconnecting.

Character-Led Editorial Illustration

Rather than illustrating one particular moment, I wanted to capture the atmosphere of the reunion as a whole.

I created a detailed, hand-drawn scene bringing together multiple characters, conversations and small narrative moments from the essay.

The challenge was to weave these different stories into one cohesive composition that felt warm, optimistic and inviting, while encouraging readers to discover new details as they explored the artwork.
